Where Should The Seam Go In A Laminate Kitchen Countertop? And Should It Be Sealed Or Something?

I just had my kitchen remodeled and I got a new laminate counter top. They put the seam right in front of the sink, which I thought was silly because it would get wet, but I guess it makes sense that there would be less seam at that point. Anyways, it was only a matter of days before it began to swell and separate. What exactly went wrong? Stupid placement? Not sealed properly? Little gnomes injecting water? Also, they failed to make the counter top level, so it is bowed near this point. Is the seam literally getting pulled apart?

Sounds like an all together sloppy job done by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing.
Seams are typically put in a place where they won’t be seen. Having said that, if it were put in front of the sink, it still should have been done in a manner that would be water proof.
