Hardibacker Installation On Wood Floors?

I read that if installing HARDIBACKER, we have to lay thinset on the subfloor and then screw it to the subfloor. If the subfloor is wood, won’t the thinset cause the wood to get moist and possible rot over time? Also if the SUBFLOOR is like a deck made above the ground, just being held with 2×4’s, what size hardibacker should we use, 1/4 or 1/2? If this is the case and appliances are being rolled over this area and it’s got the wood plank, then the hardibacker with screws (no thinset under the hardibacker) then the thinset motar to hold the TRAVERTINE tiles in place. Won’t the tile crack?

I’m Thinking Of Laying Wood Flooring On My 1st Floor.?

I have a 2 story house and still have the crap cheap carpet the builder put in.
I would like to install Hardwood flooring preferable a dark shade(pre stianed) if possible as my kitchen cabinets are Cherry. Is it easy to install yourself or am I better off just going with Tile?
What is the best wood in your opinion? Real-wood flooring not that look alike stuff.
Thank you

Im installing tile this weekend and want to know the best way to lay the backerboard down. I have a pretty solid wood floor. When laying backerboard do I have to stagger the boards out or can i just lay them out side by side up and down. I have heard mixed things that i should put a layer of mastic below the backerboard. Granite Or Wood Top For The Desk In Kitchen?

Hi, I am remodeling my kitchen. I have selected the cabinets already. All I have is kitchen part, island and a DESK. The cabinets of kitchen and desk is same color and island is little darker. The granite for kitchen countertop and island is decided already which is Shivakashi gold. Now my question is, should I have the same granite top on desk or should I go for a wooden top? I am really confused here and need to let my people know in a day or two what I want there… of course the solid wood top is more expensive than granite but that not really the issue is. I like granite top and my husband wanted a wood top there. Will it be too much granite if I use it on the desk? Your answer will really be appreciated…

Is A Wood Countertop Better Than A Laminate One?

We just bought a house, and I’m already dreaming of remodeling the kitchen. I love wood countertops but have heard horror stories of upkeep.
I have two goals in mind:
1) How hard is to maintain a wood countertop?
2) Is it a good or bad thing for the resale value of the house?

Good Wood Refinishing Product For Old Cabinets?

Im doing a kitchen remodel and am trying to keep it on the cheap a little bit. I loathe the idea of painted cabinets. I did it once and wasn’t pleased wiht the “fake” look they had.
