Hi,
We are trying to replace part of the bathroom floor tile( age of bathroom 13 years old).
So we measured the tile and it was 4 1/4 inch square. Now went to home depot and bought a white tile 4 1/4 inch square and when laying that , found out that it looks slightly bigger and they are not aligning with the old tiles that are already in place. It was looking so odd so we halted the proccess and are asking for help as we are first timers.
We measured the old tile again and found it was just a little shy of 4 1/4 inch…….a very small difference……..it is definately not 4 inches
please do help
what are we doing wrong……is there a tile measuring a little less that 4 1/4 inch and more than 4 inch?????
I am remodeling my kitchen, and want to put in a microwave cabinet for resale value. However, as I dont use a microwave, I want it to be a suitable size for my dehydrator, which is 12½” H x 17″ W x 19″ D. Would that be too large for a microwave cabinet?

Rectangular tiles each of size 70 cm by 30 cm must be laid horizontally on a rectangular floor of size 110cm by 130cm such that the tiles donot overlap. A tile can b placed in any orientation so long as its edges are parallel to the edges of the floor. No tile should overshoot any edge of the floor. The maximum number of tiles that can b accomodated on the floor is
(a) 4
(b) 5
(c) 6
(d) 7
The answer is 6 but how?
I bought 18×18 tumbled edge porcelon tile and the contractor laid it.
I want to know what is the thinnest grout line? I was thinking of 1/8.
His gout lines are 1/2 and possibly larger. They seem to be inconsistant. I can even lay my finger in some areas as to how wide they are.
I suggested re-doing it, but he insists it will look fine after the grout is in.
The grout color is very close to the tile color, but I know grout will tend to change in color or darken as it ages.
I honestly do not like grout and want to see as little as possible. I can’t imagine, if i agree with him, the upkeep of keeping it clean.
Any advice as to come to an agreement with what I want?
I purchased the tiles, from a place that is going out of business. I would be lucky to find what I need since the supply is limited. Also, they weren’t cheap even on sale. I think there are 6 or 8 tiles to a box and were $38 ea box. What would be a fair re-do? Do I buy the new tiles? Do I pay for the unsatisfied job, plus tear out and re-do?
This was done in my daughters house that isn’t occupied yet. So he, more or less, just laid it and I checked on it the next day. Should get someone else to lay it, what is my obligation to pay this contractor if I am displeased. I want to be fair, but now I feel I’m paying full price for the tile since I will be re-buying them.
Back to the original question, what is the thinnest grout line for tumbled edge 18×18 porcelon tiles?
I’m replacing some loose and broken ceramic tiles on my kitchen floor but I didn’t have enough tiles left over from the installation to replace all the broken ones. I managed to find some of the exact same tiles, which are now discontinued, and drove 300 miles to get them. After ripping up the damaged and loose tiles, and went to lay out the new ones, they’re 1/16″ larger. I’m using 3/16″ spacers but I don’t know what to do to make it look good! I was thinking of going with 1/8″ spacers to make up the difference, but I’m thinking that would look ridiculous to have a difference in size when it came time to lay the grout. What should I do?
I am remodeling my kitchen and I will be having a 4 foot by 6 foot kitchen island. I would like to to have 2 or 3 light across pendant lighting installed above it. What is the rule for how big (height and width) it should be? Also, how many inches above the island should the lighting be?
way to measure and cut the edge tiles? Please be as descriptive as possible. I have looked on the net but there really is not any good directions out there. Thanks!!
I am using a wet saw to cut. I need to figure out a good way to measure… again thanks for any advice.
I was told by one guy at Menards to use a 1/4 teeth trowel for
6-1/2” x 1/4” floor tiles. I am worried this will be too much glue and will ooze out the 3/16” gaps between tiles. then it will be a nightmare mess, and can’t grout.
Also do you just lay the tiles on the glue? or press down ?
how much?
Thank you very much
We are doing a kitchen remodel and need at least 24 tiles to cover the new area that was once covered by cabinets. Any help would be appreciated.
