Replacing Part Of My Bathroom Floor And The Old Tiles Do Not Match With The New Tiles In Size.?

Hi,
We are trying to replace part of the bathroom floor tile( age of bathroom 13 years old).
So we measured the tile and it was 4 1/4 inch square. Now went to home depot and bought a white tile 4 1/4 inch square and when laying that , found out that it looks slightly bigger and they are not aligning with the old tiles that are already in place. It was looking so odd so we halted the proccess and are asking for help as we are first timers.
We measured the old tile again and found it was just a little shy of 4 1/4 inch…….a very small difference……..it is definately not 4 inches
please do help
what are we doing wrong……is there a tile measuring a little less that 4 1/4 inch and more than 4 inch?????

My Friend Remodeled Her Kitchen Recently; And Instead Of Replacing Her Cabinet Pulls/knobs, She Spray Painted?

them with just a regular can of spray paint from a local arts and crafts store. Since she just did this, I wonder how long the spray paint will last — all that opening and closing — is there a better kind of paint somewhere out there on the market that is guaranteed to last for that kind of wear and tear? Also, I am interested in finding a paint brand that has custom colors, as I am hoping to create a dark green “granite-like” appearance (to match our countertops where are green “Uba Tuba”). Any ideas about either the paint product or method to use are most welcome. Thanks, in advance!

Replacing House Soffit And Fascia, Is It Difficult?

i will be attemtping to sell my home this spring. the above mentioned needs replacing very badly. although i’d like to use the vinyl or aluminum, it is very costly and a friend of mine is going to use wood and paint it and put up the necessary ventilations “thingys”. (sorry, idk what they are called.)
although he has done many things for me, like lay ceramic tile, re-done my HW floors and such and done a great job, i just wonder how difficult the above will be?
has anyone done it and what did you think of it afterwards?
please don’t suggest i hire a company to do it, they gave me a quote of over $3000 and i cannot afford it.
thanks for any feedback.

What Details Should I Consider When Replacing My Toilet Whilst Adding 1″ Of Height To The Bathroom Floor?

I am replacing the toilet in my bathroom.
After I take it out, I plan on laying down a 3/4″ piece of plywood to strengthen the floor. Then I’m going to tile it with 1/4″ inch thick self-adhesive tile. Giving me a grand total of one inch of added heighth.
Don’t I have to extend the flange, that the toilet bolts to, one inch to compensate? How do I do that? Do they make extensions? What do I need to know before I go and ask for the extension (if they make one)?

I’m Replacing Sheet Vinyl With Ceramic Tile In A Rent House. Can We . . . ?

. . . lay the tile over the sheet vinyl? (After we rough up the surface of the vinyl so the tile will adhere?)
Or do we have to remove the vinyl?
It is glued down firmly. It has been there for 20 years.
And how long should it take to do two bathrooms & a kitchen/diningroom area (500 sq feet)
There will be 3 of us. I have laid tile before, but that was in a hallway. And how much harder is it to lay granite, which was what we did in our hallway? (not the rent house)
Thanks – this is for my mother’s rent house – her only source of income other than Social Security.

Is Is Feasible To Place Tile Over Laminate To Remodel A Kitchen Countertop Instead Of Replacing The Laminate?

you need to staple down a wire mesh and then set your tile over that. thin set will not stick good to the wood and over time the bond will loosen and the tile will start coming loose.
