How To Remove Slate [?] Tiles From A Timber Floor?

We have what may be slate tiles which we suspect were laid directly onto a timber floor. There is nothing to indicate that any cement or other sheeting was placed b/w the timber and the tiles.
We don’t know what sort of adhesive has been used, but it can’t be very strong as many of the tiles move/rock when stepped on.
The tiles need to be lifted, preferably without damaging the timber underneath (which we want to stain & polish) and hopefully without having to smash up the tiles. We might be able to use them elsewhere.
The grouting or cement between the tiles is not exactly top quality, so we can chisel or drill that out without too much trouble, we hope!
What is a good technique for a) lifting the tiles and b) removing any underlying adhesive from the timber?
Many thanks,

I Need To Remove Wall Tiles, An Inch Of Cement And Chickenwire Laid On A Hardwood Floor. How Do I Do It?

i am doing a renovation on my flat which involves ripping up wet area tiles as they have been laid on a nice hardwood floor which i want to polish up.
problem is the tiles have been laid on an inch of cement AND chicken wire. there may be glue under there too. my neighbour in the same block of flats who is a builder, ripped his up and said it was a &)^&(%^&(%* job which took forever and he couldn’t do it without damaging the floor. a friend of mine who has done hers as well said it’s really dusty and messy.
I’d love some ideas on how to minimise the hassle and mess as it’s a small space and I have to live here while the work is done.

How Do I Remove Outdoor Floor Tiles Myself?

hello there, just bought house with like an out door cement block patio at the back door, I want to turn it into an enclosed deck area. The cement block has been totally covered in what looks like thousands of little tiles like the kind that are all joined together by mesh in groups when you buy them new, the area covered is about 2 1/2 meters by 5 meters and they have been there for YEARS. I want to remove these tiles and lay new large terracotta style tiles in their place. What do I need to do the job and how do I prepare the surface to put down new ones? It is not an option to tile over the old ones and I would prefer to do the job myself. Also do I put down my new tiles before or after I have installed deck rails etc. thank you.

How To Remove Lineum From Tile?

We have a bathroom that we recently discovered that there was a leak under the toilet, when we removed the toilet ( that only needs a new wax ring) we then discovered that there was mold growing under the linoleum around the toilet.. we have had to rip up the linoleum only to discover then that there is tile under there! We do not know how to get what ever it was that was layed under the linoleum, over the tile.. I assume it was to level the floor to lay the linoleum.. does anyone know how to get this stuff off?? We are killing our hands trying to scrape it off to expose the tile. any advice??

Carpet Instalation – Remove The Tiles Underneath It?

Want to install the carpet myself. After removing the old carpet and underpad, I saw old tiles glued on the concrete floor. These tiles are really old, probably 30 years or more. I already broke some pieces when I pulled out the tackleless strip. Should I leave the tiles alone? The previous owner didn’t bother to remove them. If I remove it, how do I lay the underpad? I cannot staple it anymore. I don’t think I can staple the pad to the concrete, can I? Thanks for your help.

How Do I Remove Construction Dust / Dirt From Interior Walls Without It Smearing On The Paint?

I am remodeling my house and it is filled with dust from construction and the cutting of tile. I am about to lay carpet, and I am trying to clean the house to the best of my ability. It seems the dust and dirt is everywhere, including the walls, which were recently painted. What materials / products / procedure would you use to remove the dust and dirt from the walls without it turning into a swirl of dirt smears? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We have just pulled up an old lino and disgusting marlory(?) tiles which have been laid with bitchimun on top of a gorgoeus quarry tiled floor. Now pratically house bound as the remaining mess is so sticky we can’t walk on it.
