I’m Trying To Take Up The Residual “thinset” Mortar Left Under Some 16″ Tiles Over Concrete…
What’s the best way to get the thinset, mortar, grout lines up so the floor is smooth enough to lay new flooring ( hardwood)?

I am remodeling my kitchen and it has an industrial tile on the floor now (similiar to school flooring). I would like to put ceramic tile in its place. is it okay to lay the ceramic right over top if the floor is in good condition? or do i have to remove the laminate before placing the ceramic?
We live in a rental property and the lino flooring is that old, industrial style stuff. It’s horrible, very scratched and stains so badly I essentially have to clean it on my hands and knees.
I have seen carpet tiles or squares in Bunnings, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to just lay them down over the lino? Obviously being a rental we can’t lay them properly, but what if we were just to fit them and lay them over the lino without any adhesive? Would it be a problem for the lino underneath, and would the vacuum cleaner lift them every time I did the floors?
Any advice would be appreciated, I really hate our awful floor and would like to improve it!
i am trying to lay a door threshold crossing carpet and tile. the floor beneath is concrete. I have tried screwing into the fllo between the carpet and tile – but the screw doesnt hold and can just be pulled out. What is the best way?
thanks
My friend was sick and throwing up Friday night. She went home and fell asleep and woke up in the morning throwing up and passed out and hit her head on the toliet. Her mom found her laying face down on the tile and woke her up. She felt a lot better after throwing up and everything but then later that night she was taken to the ER and hooked up to an IV. She was then given Thermaflu (even though I thought thermaflu was only for people that were at risk of dying) but she had Swine Flu Friday night, all day Saturday, then today she’s fever free and all better.
I haven’t thrown up at all. I got Swine Saturday morning, I went to the doctor and my fever has been anywhere from 99.2-103.6 (it fluctuates).
Why is she all better now!?? She is able to go to school tomorrow but I won’t be able to because I still have a fever. What should I do???

i have found lino glued onto red quarry tiles in my kitchen–i want to get rid of the lino but only if its possible to remove the glue schlapped on to hold that lino down– can a lay person do this? is there a chemical out there to remove the glue safely or is this idea a lost cause? i would have to do this myself DIY and at minimum cost. thanks for any sound advise
When we remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago, we were told we needed to put down cement backerboard before the vinyl could be installed (to insure proper warranty of the vinyl). So we did. Now we would like to replace the vinyl with ceramic tile. Can we simply remove the vinyl and use the existing backerboard to install the tile on? We want a quality tile job, but would like NOT to have to take up the backboard and put down new backerboard.
I may be inheriting my parent’s house soon. They have beautiful Mexican tile on the kitchen countertops, but it’s a ***** to keep the grout clean. I’m wondering if it would be possible to lay some kind of thick clear, easy-to-clean material over the countertops, so that the tile would be visible but protected. What would be best for this purpose? I’m worried glass would crack if I put a heavy ceramic bowl down on it too hard, but I don’t know what sort of plastic would have the clarity I’m looking for. Also, what would the best way to keep the sheets in place? Building them into frames, then laying the frames over the tile? Or using some kind of adhesive patches around four corners?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
The new tiles are 1 1/2 times larger squares and laid differently. Still, some of the edges lift up and don’t stick properly. I made sure that the floor was clean and smooth before I installed. What should I do? Should I buy vinyl glue? would that work?
