I’m remodeling my kitchen using a 50’s theme: I have the old appliances, stove/fridge (white) and dinette set (red table/white chairs) already. What type of lighting was used in this era? Recessed? I’m going to paint my cabinets (not sure what 50’s color), what kind of countertop should I use? Stainless? Of course I’m going with the black/white checkered floor and same color mini tile for the backsplash. Maybe I chrome outer edge of the countertop? What colors were the walls primarily- white with a hint of coor as the cabinets (50’s teal/blue)? I need help choosing colors being a single guy. I can’t match for shite. Any ideas I on what was popular back then I would appreciate!

I live in the state of Missouri and I am currently expecting twins this fall. After evaluating our income we have realized the most we could afford is two per week for both children. 200 only! We make a decent amount of money but, have a lot of debt out, schools loans, car loans, kitchen loan (remodeling) and everything else. So we are not sure what we could do.!!!!

I am going to be putting my house on the market soon to relocate. Its an older 2 bedroom home. I can’t afford to do any expensive remodeling (ie`new kitchen counters, gutting the bathroom). So I was wondering if anyone had any tips for what I should do to attract buyers. What are the big turn on’s and turn off’s when you look at a home. This is the only home I’ve ever bought so I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. We have done some updating while we lived here, but its all been plumbing, wireing, the type of thing you can’t see. I’m looking for more cosmetic type advice. Thank you!
I am redoing my basement in a Harley Davidson theme. For the floors I am laying the diamond plate tiles. I’m not sure what to do with the ceiling (no ceiling in it yet) or the walls. I was thinking of grayish walls, but the tiles are gray. I have black diamond plate tiles that go all the way around the outside of the floor. I also have a bar that I need to redo. I was thinking of putting fake black leather on it with the silver studs…any other suggestions for me? By the way, I am having a surprise Harley birthday party in the basement also so it has to stay “not cluttered” with things.

Every spring my daughter’s school has a dinner/dance/auction for the parents. Each class at the school (K-7) has something up for auction (a vacation home, a trip, handmade furniture…etc) and it’s not made by the kids. The classroom parents either donate $ toward the purchase of supplies or help buld it. Any ideas? One idea already up is a bistro table with a checkerboard design laid down with tile on top of the table (so you can play either checkers or chess) and two chairs.
Hi, we are having our kitchen remodeded and I want a backsplash on the wall behind the cooktop. The area is about 84×18 in. Our contractor insists that if I want the wall tiles there, I must have them on all the other wall spaces in the kitchen where there is no cabintery. That will not only be too expensive, but also I dont want that much color in the kitchen(I ve chosen a bright wall tile). Please tell me if I am doing something totally wrong by getting the wall tiles only behind the cooktop
