Should We Lay Tile Diagonal Or Straight In Our Master Bath In Our New Home, And Why?
Also, should we go with 18″ x 18″ or 12″ x 12″? Our bathroom will not be very big, maybe 9′ 6″ x 9′ 6″… and then you have to account for the vanity, tub, and shower…
Going straight will take less work as you won’t have as many cuts when you reach the edge.
Also, the bigger the tile you use, the less grout you need to use, and the easier it is to install.
However, you may want to lay the tile diagonally to achieve a desired look.
I would suggest laying some tiles out in different patterns to see what you like…
use bigger tiles to give a bigger feel to the room.
diagonal is nicest IMO, but will require more tiles and more cutting.
Definitely go with the smaller size for the tile, since more tiles will make your bathroom appear larger. As for the direction, straight tiles will make the bathroom appear to have more area…especially if you have the traditional rectangular tub, vanity, etc. Unfortunately there’s not much “feng shui” someone can do with a 9′6″ x 9′6″ room. Good luck!
If it were me I would go with straight because you don’t want the first thing you see when you walk in to be the tile. Also, if your bathroom is small I would go with the 9X6
12 x 12 also lay it straight. There will be less cutting of the tiles which will make the job easier.
unless of course you have all the money in the world and are having someone do it for you then diagonally
