Ripping Up The Carpet In My Living Room???
The carpet in my living room is AWFUL! I absolutely cannot stand to look at it or smell it any longer. So last night, I pulled up a corner of the carpet to see what was underneath. I was hoping for wood floors, but instead found tile. Some type of older tile. So my question is this… after ripping it up, if the tile is broken or bad, what is my next option? Bust up the tile and see what’s under there? Or just lay some new type of flooring on top? If the tile is ok, I can just paint it or throw a rug over it. But if its awful too, what do I do?? Ideas please!
Hopefully the person that put the carpet over the tile was just tired of the tile instead of covering up damage. I can understand you being reluctant b/c once you get the carpet up you may discover something more hideous than the carpet! What I would do is go ahead and get rid of your smelly carpet. Don’t expect the floor to be in perfect condition that way you’re not disappointed when it isn’t. If you find that the tile is in okay condition, give it a good cleaning and then see what you think. The trouble spots may be able to be hidden with good furniture placement or a rug. I would avoid painting even with floor paints. If you’re not crazy about the tile but like it better than your carpet, you can begin to save up and look around at your home improvement stores for a new look! If you rip up the carpet and find that the tile floor is horrible well, the only thing I can suggest is a large area rug and start saving for a new floor!
Good luck!
Laminate will go over the tile if you desire.. It s easy DIY job and not expensive.. If tile it ok and grout bits you can stain the grout to look better.. Don t even try to look and replace a tile or two they change in dye lots and style after so many years GL
either lay new carpet or lay new sub floor and lay tile-digging deeper into new floor might be nightmare-then again you might find wood floor-be a lot of work to get it sanded back to normal
