Replacing Part Of My Bathroom Floor And The Old Tiles Do Not Match With The New Tiles In Size.?
Hi,
We are trying to replace part of the bathroom floor tile( age of bathroom 13 years old).
So we measured the tile and it was 4 1/4 inch square. Now went to home depot and bought a white tile 4 1/4 inch square and when laying that , found out that it looks slightly bigger and they are not aligning with the old tiles that are already in place. It was looking so odd so we halted the proccess and are asking for help as we are first timers.
We measured the old tile again and found it was just a little shy of 4 1/4 inch…….a very small difference……..it is definately not 4 inches
please do help
what are we doing wrong……is there a tile measuring a little less that 4 1/4 inch and more than 4 inch?????
Tear it all out
Besides there are so many better choices than 4 inch tile on the floor anyway, 4 inch tiles are rarely put on floors anymore, kind of dated
Go with a natural stone, travertine or tumbled marble
or many porcelain or ceramic choices in 12 inch tile
Only wrong thing you’re doing is to assume that the tile makers wouldn’t change the size in all these years. A 2 x 4 isn’t 2 x 4 any more either.
You won’t be able to hide it. If you don’t mind looking at it then continue on. If you can’t stand how it looks then you should replace the whole floor.
I’m sorry you have to learn these things the hard way. You will never match the tiles,
When ever you buy tiles to do a job they must all be bought at the same time and make sure the batch # on the boxes are all the same #
Here is what you need to do.
Plan on removing all the tile in your bath and replacing it with new tile of your choice.
If a jobs worth doing it worth doing it right.
