You ll be fine going over that black emulsion glue as long as there are no loose and flaky sections. Use an extra strong modified thin set such as Tec Super Flex. Cost a bit most but you need that extra holding power.. Wait at least 2 days before walking and grouting it. The thin set will need extra drying time since the cement is “sealed” w/ the old glue.any questions you can e mail me GL

If the adhesive is particularly well stuck you can lay ceramic or quarry tiles over the top of it. If you choose to do this then a good coat of undiluted PVA adhesive is a very good idea. Cermaic flooring can be laid straight over the floor as long as the floor is not uneven and a good quality underlay is used.

Get some self leveling floor screed from a descent flooring shop, it will apply a thin layer of screed over the top, it’s is easy to apply, or get a plasterer/floorer to do it, won’t cost much!

use self levelling latex compound, you may need 2 or 3 coats,it stinks of ammonia & takes 12 hrs to go off ,so you may need to work around that dilemma

the thinset that you use will adhere. you can use concrete cleaner and it will come right off if you have doubts

The only problem will be if you are installing green or white marble, ceramic won’t show any stain. Go over it.

Go ahead and spread your thinset over it and lay your tiles. It will be fine.
