How Can I Remove Bitchimun From An Edwardain Tiled Floor?

We have just pulled up an old lino and disgusting marlory(?) tiles which have been laid with bitchimun on top of a gorgoeus quarry tiled floor. Now pratically house bound as the remaining mess is so sticky we can’t walk on it.

A paint stripping gun similar to a hairdrier and a broad paint scraper., should remove most of the built-up bitumen.
Turps or white spirit on an old torn up towel should remove the brown staining, if there are still stubborn bits left try paint remover also using an old towel.
Finally a good scrub with a solution of caustic soda solution.
Pour COLD water into a bucket, add a cup of caustic soda crystals into the bucket stirring with a stick, the water will get quite hot. Apply to the floor and scrub well. Wear rubber gloves and be CAREFUL. Rinse well.
